BeanswithPork Greetings and salutations valued reader, have you come to read about cannabis? This is Grandaddy Black by Original Sensible Seeds. It would take insane memory, but I’ve tried to grow this before and document it on GrowDiaries. Original Sensible was truly generous when I first came on board, and sent me plenty with Black Domina genetics, which I requested. I had some success, Black Destroyer, Black Gum, and many failures. At that point, I didn’t realize how detrimental cold temperatures were to seedlings, especially night time dips. So this is my second go at it. Genetics are Black Domina x Grandaddy Purple. My tent is a DIY hung mylar setup in an unfinished basement. I used a peat pod to germinate and HP Pro Mix with Myke Flower mycorrhizae. I have two 300 actual watt full spectrum LEDs. No issues thus far. This is day 5. Hoping to crush this one and produce some dank purple that will put me to sleep. 😴

BeanswithPork Day 12 for Grandaddy Black. Everything is looking peachy. I transplanted on day 8 or 9 because it looked to be able to take it, into a larger container of HP Pro Mix, 4-4-4 Gaia Green All Purpose amendment and Myke Flower mycorrhizae. Getting larger and larger despite being overcrowded. I will look to fix that and clear some plants out this week. I am only giving water at this point.

BeanswithPork Day 19 for Grandaddy Black from Original Sensible Seeds. Really great growth this week, perfect green. I trained it yesterday and irrigated, interestingly it immediately did not like that as you can see the discolouration. No matter, transplants upon transplants upcoming. I am very happy with the progress to be able to do such a tight training so early on. After photos I snipped the large fan leaf that was covering the bud sites as it seemed settled. I worked hard this week and the veg. tent is cleared out, light for all!

BeanswithPork Day 26 for Grandaddy Black. Things look way better since adjusting to the soil amendment. I think the growth will be steady, at least the green is more uniform. I wish the secondary branches would catch up a bit, and I’ll have to adjust how I load the plant into the next container. Just water. Edit: almost forgot, I transplanted this week! Oops. I used HP Pro Mix with a small amount of perlite and worm castings added, and 4-4-4 Gaia Green amendment and Myke Flower mycorrhizae.

BeanswithPork Day 33 for Grandaddy Black. Lots of amendment absorption this week. I did add some CalMag this week (I know I know) which may have caused some droop or dark colour. However, more likely the pest prevention last night - potassium based insecticide soap and neem oil. This K feeding and saturating of the soil does usually weigh on the plant. Otherwise looking good as I continue to irrigate with just water.

BeanswithPork Day 40 for Grandaddy Black. The lead continued for GDB compared to another plant, though must recently has slowed down. I suspect in need of Cal/Mag again. I topped and now have an even canopy. I got my heat pump installed and so I have the centralized fan circulating the overall air in the house (as the A/C doesn’t have to come on this time of year).

BeanswithPork Day 47 for Grandaddy Black. Mixed week which I will detail. BudXs and I were talking about pH, this has come in handy with my entire veg. grow, except for this plant. I saw immediate negative effects, oops. Oh well. I let it dry out instead of panicking, and then applied significant water. Still looked like shit which I felt bad about so I decided to hasten transplanting to a larger container. I have five weeks until flower. I used HP Pro Mix with a small amount of extra worm castings and perlite, 4-4-4 Gaia Green All Purpose, and Myke Flower mycorrhizae. My inlaws are computer programmers, non-stoners, but gifted me some basic sensing technology for fun using basic, cheap tech including Raspberry Pi. I have the ability to play with sensing particles of particular sizes or temperature and humidity which I have included graphs of. I can also upgrade to CO and CO2 if I wish as my friend is handy too. Displaying both yesterday and part of today, you can see where I irrigated last night. Are you surprised by how high-tech. this is for this monkey? 🐒

BeanswithPork Day 54 for Grandaddy Black. The plant has its health back, its adjusted to the new container, and it is absorbing nutrients. The green is returning. Each branch has sprouted and I’ve had to top a couple. Size is already becoming an issue as I can anticipate the HPS stretch. At least the canopy is nice and uniform. Temperature and humidity from yesterday and part of today.

BeanswithPork Day 61 for Grandaddy Black. This is the biggest plant in the veg. tent. I am occasionally applying Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag) and blackstrap molasses. I am topping everything, desperately trying to limit growth before the HPS switch. I have to hang on for at least two more weeks. She was thirsty at the time of photos, and then water going back into the tent.

BeanswithPork Day 68 for Grandaddy Black. She has clearly reached the very end of the soil nutrients and so the nitrogen deficiency yellowing will come soon and fast. I’ll be applying food as soon as it dries out. I’m topping left and right as I try to delay the height. One more week until the flowering flip ... I think I can make it. Lots of work this week as I proactively treated for pests with Safer’s potassium based soap and neem oil. I’ve learned you can’t be too careful. My server was down with my temperature/humidity data but the manual readings greatly vary depending on location. Because the canopy is so thick, the undercanopy is as low as 20 degrees Celsius. The temperature is as high as 25-28 degrees Celsius at light level. Daytime environment will continue to shift as my furnace runs and winter nears.

BeanswithPork Day 74 for Grandaddy Black. As stated last week it had run out of soil amendment and so I gave a dilute 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow. It responded better than I expected and I saw green through absorption. I’ll let it dry to really get the food, and give some water. I may top up the nitrogen again once we get into flower. Speaking of, here are the troops lined up and ready for another round of pest prevention using Safer’s potassium based soap and neem oil. They then went into the HPS tent. Next week will be the first flower update! Photos were after 12 hours of darkness and after drying following spraying.

BeanswithPork Day 81 for Grandaddy Black. One week of flowering complete, eight weeks of flowering to go. Stretch is well underway and you can see that I was correct in rushing thing. I think this generation will be better - this one is the tallest and there is plenty of space yet remaining. In an effort to not be so heavy handed with nitrogen fade I did give another feeding of dilute 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow, being sure to give some blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag) as well. My flower tent is of the same construction, just hung mylar in an unfinished basement. There is more space which makes things easier as it measures as 4 feet x 6 feet. My flowering light is a 600watt Vivosun HPS. Shout-out to the gentlemen, BudXs and Hellishjam. Hoping this plant can absorb some more green and focus on that then necessarily just stretch, you can see why I’ve been adding food as there was some leaf yellowing.
