Germination
1y ago
SleepyLeviathan Germinated on paper towels and then put into starter cubes once the taproots were of appropriate size. Part of one of the Shoguns taproots got accidentally woven into the paper towel, so I lost that part of the taproot when transplanting the seeds into the cubes. She pulled through OK and is still growing. Lesson learned, don't use the "nice" paper towels when germinating.

SleepyLeviathan The SSH and Shogun are coming along nicely, a few days after they got above ground they were transplanted into solo cups. Just giving them 5.8ph water only (from a sprayer) as needed, just to keep the top of the soil layer looking moist. Not much else to report at this stage, they haven't really "taken off" yet because they're so young. Day 8 and more of the same. They all got enough water to facilitate some runoff from the bottom of the cups. I'll probably be transplanting them into their 1 gallon pots over the next few days

SleepyLeviathan Backfilling the diary. Week 2 they cruised along OK, still hadn't decided on whether or not to bring along the 2nd Shogun plant. Once the roots started to poke out of the bottoms of the solo cups, I transplanted into 1 gal pots.

SleepyLeviathan Week 3 and another transplant. Shining Silver went from a 1 to 3 gallon, Shogun went from the 1 gallon to the 5 gallon finishing pot. Shogun #1 was still in a Solo Cup as I was still weighing bringing it along or not.

SleepyLeviathan Week 5 and it was time for the Shining Silver Haze's 2nd manifolding. I grew both main stems out to 5 nodes, then topped down to 4, keeping the 2nd and 4th nodes of growth on the plant. Employed a little LST to spread the plant out a bit with soft garden ties. The same process was repeated on Shogun #2. The modified manifolding process should leave me with 8 "main" cola sites on the plant. Shogun #1 was left alone after her first topping due to size constraints in my tent.

SleepyLeviathan Week 10 and the plants are doing just fine. Really starting to drink heavy now, and the smell inside the tent has gotten noticeably stronger. Did the final top dressing of Powerbloom this week and rearranged the pot layout for what I'm hoping will be a nice, evenly spaced out canopy.

SleepyLeviathan Plants finally stopped stretching, thank goodness. I almost ran out of vertical space in the tent, these are some tall ladies! Buds are really starting to pack on size now, and beginning to swell/backfill down the stems. The tent smells absolutely incredible to boot.

SleepyLeviathan I totally forgot about this diary! Figured I might as well provide an update. I'll try to provide a summary here and backfill with pictures as I find them. 3 tall plants heading into late flower. Started seeing orange hairs peeking through on all 3 plants, so I'll probably be harvesting here in another 3 weeks or so. I honestly thought the Shogun was going to end up too tall for the tent, but thank goodness everything stopped stretching before I topped out my light height. Veg was fine, I employed a training technique called manifolding. Basically the plants were grown out to 5 nodes, then topped to 3 nodes. Those two main stems were then topped again after the plant recovers, and one final time a week before flower. My two 5gal girls (One Super Silver Haze and one Shogun) were topped until they reached 8 main stems, all being fed through the main split in the plant at the 3rd node. My smaller 3gal Shogun plant was simply topped once and left alone. Plants were transplanted 3 times during veg, solo into 1gal, into 3gal, into 5 gallon finishing pots for the bigger plants. The smaller plant went from a Solo to 1gal to a 3gal finishing pot. Plants were top dressed with Powerveg and Powerbloom a week before the flip, which happened about 1.5 months ago. Plants were top dressed with PowerBloom halfway through the flowering period a few weeks ago. Canopy is pretty evenly spaced so all I'm having to do is keep my two fans pointed up into the bottom of the canopy. Keeps the humidity right around 65ish percent in the canopy with plenty of airflow. The Gals just get calmag water with some blackstrap molasses mixed in now, roughly a gallon per watering when the soil starts to feel dry about 2-3" down. I'll probably keep that going until it's time for the flush.

SleepyLeviathan Week 13 - Another week closer to harvest. The Super Silver Haze is in a pretty deep fade now, and the trichomes are starting to be more noticeably cloudy when viewed under a macro lens or jewelers loupe. The Shogun is also starting to noticeably fade, and the trichomes on both those plants are starting to turn cloudy as well. I'll probably start the flush here in another week or so, and allow for 2 weeks of flush before harvest. Slow flowering period for these strains.

SleepyLeviathan Week 14 and the ladies are looking like they're probably going to finish at some point in the next 7-10 days. Roughly 80% of the trichomes on all 3 plants are now cloudy when viewed under my loupe and/or pocket microscope. Ladies are just on cruise control until the finish, they're getting a flush with calmag and blackstrap molasses through the next 4-5 waterings or so before the chop. EDIT : Im gonna let them go to 16 weeks before chop. White hairs are still pretty prevalent on Shogun #2, but are pulling back/turning orange at a faster pace now, both these strains have long flowering periods.

SleepyLeviathan About a week away from harvest. The buds on Shogun #2 have swelled considerably since last week and the trichs are looking more cloudy every day. Plants are also drinking less water now, shouldn't be long before the chop.

Pretty solid grower, took to topping pretty well. LST, not so much. Buds are absolutely beautiful and packed with trichomes. I'll be updating with yields and a smoke report as I trim her out into jars. EDIT: Ended up with 114g of jar worthy buds. Training technique helped cut down on the larf and popcorn, but I would probably defoliate even further up the plant when I grow her again.

Tall, tall plants. I almost ran out of vertical space in my tent. Main colas are absolutely massive, dense, and sparkling with trichomes. Not a huge producer, but the flower it does produce is absolutely top notch. EDIT 1: Shogun #1 (the 3 gallon plant) yielded 42g of jar worthy buds. Main cola stems on the plant were 14 and 15g respectively. Not bad for a plant that I wasn't planning on bringing along for the ride. EDIT 2: Shogun #2 yielded 102g of jar worthy buds. EDIT 3: I totally forgot about 3 branches in one of my dry boxes for a few days after the last post. Shogun #2s official jar worthy yield ended uo being 102
