Stretching, the term used to describe the accelerated growth of cannabis stems, is part of the natural process of the vegetative phase and is influenced by plant genetics among other variables. Controlling cannabis stretching requires an understanding of how plants interact with their internal and external environments. WHY DO PLANTS STRETCH? There are many reasons why plants are stretched, one of which revolves around the varieties themselves. Genetics play an essential role in determining the possible height of sativas, indicas and hybrids. While most indica varieties are reared to grow in a smaller and denser way, sativas often undergo significant stretches of up to sometimes almost 2 or more mothers depending on the species. While stretching itself is not harmful, drastic flare-ups on the part of the stems can result in the potential loss of a large crop of between 20% and 30% in total. When thinking about species for your next home growing session, look for the standard size of each variety you are interested in so you can judge whether or not these species undergo drastic stretching during flowering.

Beginning of week 8: Tropicana is 24 cm high and the stem is 36 cm long. She is a legal frosty angel (10 degrees last night) growing on a rotten balcony in a small town in germany. Day 50 🌥️☁️☁️ 10-19 degrees, humidity 78% I noticed that the soil has sunk. It moved downstairs, between the drainage I guess. New pots problem. Got my compost, summer will be long and there will be a second round for sure. So I prepared bigger pottery pots, maybe 15 liter, which will be ready for seeds in about a month or two. Tropicana needs rainwater now, some sunny hours during the day. That’s all. I like how she develops. Day 51 ☁️🌨️☁️☁️☁️🌦️🌈 14-19 degrees and humidity is around 77%. I gave Tropicana too much nitrogen. Spotted some signs and stop with fertilizers for now. It‘s ok but the comfrey manure had more nitrogen than I expected. In the next days we‘ll have a lot of rain, so Tropicanas soil will be washed and this will solve the problem maybe. It‘s a big difference to grow cannabis in a pot then veggies in the ground in a no dig garden with yearly compost mulching. My Tomatoes in ground loved this 1:5 comfrey manure breakfast but for Tropicana less would have been more. Maybe 1:15 or 1:10. It always depends on the raw material for the liquid manure. This year we had a lot of rain and the comfrey had maybe more nitrogen as usually. Day 52 🌥️🌤️🌦️🌤️ 13 - 19 degrees and the humidity is 69%. Tropicana had about 0.8 Liter pure rainwater today. It was raining the whole night. Day 53 🌧️☁️☁️🌧️ 13-17 degrees, humidity is around 90%. Me and Tropicana have a rest. We chill with a tasty vape on the balcony while doing nothing more then chill. Day 54 🌧️☁️☁️🌧️ 13-18 degrees, humidity is around 93%. Saturday, time for cleaning the balcony and take some fotos of my flowers. Her smell is getting much more intensiv. I see that the color of the buds is getting diverse. The soil is moist from the rain. Day 55 🌧️☁️☁️☁️ 13-18 degrees, humidity is falling, now 69%. Tropicana spend the day chilling with her friends on the balcony. They talked about the weather and what to do in the next week. Day 56 ⛅️🌤️☀️🍉 12-24 degrees, humidity is around 78% Tropicana had a sunbath for hours. I bought a cheap magnifying glass today and I‘m so happy with this one. It have 30x / 60x lenses and two LEDs. I found it in a shop for mycologists. I‘m crazy about mushroom hunting. Normal mushrooms, yes. So this is absolutely relaxing viewing the structure of fruits, my homemade soil, little insects living inside. Actually this was a tip out of a blog article of Fast Buds Tropicana Cookies week by week guide, which I can highly recommend. I gave Tropicana in the morning a 1:20 field horsetail tee, ~ 0,7 liter in three steps. 100-200-400 milliliters. She was drinking it till sunset. The pot got lighter till evening, around half a kilo or maybe more.

She is moving right along. She comes inside at night. She makes the entire garage stink and the hallway leading to it. She is a few days into the week. The weather has been cloudy from the hurricane. She is drinking a lot less, have not had to water her in a few days. Supposed to be cloudy for a few more days. She is close to being done, 1 or 2 weeks tops and she will be harvested. 10/2 Day 108. She is drinking very little, it has been very cloudy outside. Don't like her pot sitting around wet. Although at this point there is very little that could cause a serious problem She either comes in the garage or stays on the porch and maybe gets a fan blowing on her. Depending on the humidity. Last couple of days humidity has been in the 50s and windy. I am guessing 1 possibly 2 weeks and she will be harvest ready. First site of an amber tricomb and she is coming down. 9/4 Day 109. Cloudy out and her pot is still heavy. The last time I watered her could be considered a flush. She is on plain water until harvest. She smells so good, very hard to describe, a fruity diesel. 9/5 day 110 Another cloudy and rain day. Will harvest soon. Don't want anything going wrong, I am too close. 9/6 day 111 finally a sunny day after a week of rain or clouds. She is close to being done. The first amber tricomb I see and she is coming down.

This week was all about control and balance. ✂️ Defoliation & Growth Management Although these plants have been allowed to grow naturally so far, their explosive stretch meant I had to step in. I performed a strategic defoliation, not because the plants were weak, but to: • Improve airflow through the canopy. • Ensure light reaches lower bud sites. • Slow vertical growth and help prevent them from outgrowing the tent. Even with a high ceiling, there’s still a risk of running out of headroom during the last stretch. Defoliating at this stage also redirects energy to bud formation instead of excessive leaf production. Note: During this process, a few branches were accidentally broken while moving them out for photos. I left this in the report and photos as a learning moment, large plants can be tricky to handle. Growing great. Drinking a gallon every 2 to 3 days. Posted a bunch from through the week. shes starting to fill in the empty spaces in little nugs and ive never got to watch this day by day before so im having a great time right now its off though that she still doesnt smell like much when you put your nose to her but when you touch some the leaves or touch the bud itself it smells pretty dank on your fingers Wondering if it will get louder as she finishes up

Woop happy with how the grow is coming along had fun trimming the girls down shitting myself at the same time though😝 still on an 18/6 schedule as I didn’t want to over stress the plants following defoliation and scrog . Scrog setting up wasn’t too bad hope I done it right 😅 the screen is slowly becoming very green haha .. I’ll keep looking around on the web to widen my knowledge but for now it seems all is good my plan is to switch to 12/12 starting week 6 and around this time I should look into adding bloom to feed the autos as I’m sure they’re in pre flower stage right now but if ever in doubt I shall ask Some cool photos to look at as well Happy growing ☠️

Still wet, but I am very happy with the result for my first grow :) The autos grew much bigger than I expected and I underestimated the growth spurt during flower, so I had increase the setup beyond what people might see as pure budget. Anyway I can't wait to try :)
