Short video about the update

Desktop Just Got an Upgrade!

We’ve got some exciting news for our GrowDiaries family—another round of updates is here, and it’s all thanks to you! Your feedback continues to shape the way we grow, and this time, we’ve focused on improving your desktop experience.

Big, Bold & Colorful Icons Are Back!

You asked, and we listened. One of the most requested changes was bringing back the big, colorful parameter icons. Say goodbye to the minimalist black icons and hello again to the bright, familiar visuals for plant height, light cycle, and more. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference, and we’re happy to bring a little more color back to your diaries.

Photo Viewing, Now Better Than Ever

We’ve also made some exciting changes to how you view plant photos in your diaries. There is no need to click “show more photos” anymore. Now, you’ll see all your weekly photos right away. No extra steps, just a clear, complete view of your grow journey at a glance.

And that’s not all! We’ve changed the way you scroll through your photos. Instead of scrolling vertically, you’ll now scroll horizontally in a seamless flow for a smoother, more natural experience, making it much easier to view all the pictures and videos from your favorite diaries.

Total Control Over Your Videos

Last but not least, we've fixed the video playback issues! You can now click on the video to enter full-screen mode, allowing you to mute, pause, rewind, or fast-forward whenever you like.

Make sure to leave your suggestions and feedback in the comment section below, and thank you for helping us grow into the world’s most awesome grower community, one comment at a time.

Grow Diaries 2.3 release in a weeks time. Pride edition

Thanks for listening to a few things, it's definitely better, but still far from me wanting to switch from the old version. The images are all cropped square like the thumbnail view and not how I uploaded them. This cuts the shots really horribly and can't zoom in. Would be nice to see the full image and be able to zoom. The sides of the screen aren't used, but the weeks at the bottom cover part of the info you want to see, doesn't seem like a good use of space. I don't like having to open the comments in a separate window and still not a fan of just being able to scroll from one week to the next. I'd rather select the week and see all the info than be able to scroll through weeks, but have to click to open info. It also often doesn't show which week I'm on at the bottom when I scroll around and makes me want each week on it's own page even more. In short, can you make the new one like the old one, but that is works? 😆 Old one fills the screen, shows full images, can zoom and navigate around the image, has every week in a separate window. Seems like a lot of effort to go from v2.1 to v2.2 to v2.76, just to realise you could have just fixed the old one and saved a load of time, effort and money... then maybe you'd have some budget to look after winners that were stiffed by the sponsors of some old contests. ;)

@Shinsimilla, As always thanks for your detailed feedback! The cropped images - we will look into it. You can zoom in by double clicking on the image. In case you don't like unused sides of the screen there is alway option to open a diary in new window. All the comments are grouped at the bottom (under germination week) in case you do not like them in the new window. We believe in the new layout and will keep improving it including with with your help! Thanks once again and have a great day!

@GrowDiaries, thanks for deleting my comment. I guess free speech is not allowed here.

Perfect, but what im missing is "zoom" on pictures to see the Trichomes and so on :-(
KanOrganics
KanOrganicscommented5d ago
@SouthGermanGrowGirl, That is done with double-clicking just like the old layout, but they haven't added the ability to pan around yet.
KanOrganics
KanOrganicscommented5d ago
It's definitely better, but it is still missing the ability to pan around a zoomed in image like you can with the middle mouse button in the old layout. I'll continue to use the old layout until I can see every part of the full resolution image in the new layout.

@KanOrganics, Thanks for letting us know. We will put it in the list!👊 Can you tell us what's wrong with the current approach when you double click and then can move around the zoomed in picture?

(PC) Much Better, thks for the effort, but i still prefer the old view: - all thumbnails same size and bigger, with the comment showing on the thumbnails, i really miss the photo comment showing on all thumbnail. with the new view additionnal thumbnail are really small certainly allowing for a quick overview with week with lot of photo, but much less comfortable to the eyes. with the old view i was very very very rarely enlarging any photo, with new view i ll have to enlarge some photo more often as additionnal thumbnails are really small to clearly see. - Old view was using all screen width on PC, 4 thumbnails per row instead of 3 max now, why the new view main pop up not larger ? Minor stuff: growing conditions, "smell" not saved from previous week to the next

@HerbalEdu, great to hear such detailed comments. Thanks a lot. We will pass this over to the developers.👌

It would be nice if we could zoom in and out of pictures.

Thanks a lot. Finally actions to statements. With me nagging all the time also have to give credit where it is due. First: "Desktop Just Got an Upgrade!" finally seeing the Desktop users, thank you! - "Big, Bold & Colorful Icons Are Back!" - love it! - The Overview of the week is A LOT better now, one can finally see all pictures. - Pressing ESC no longer exits the Diary, nice! - Videos can now play in Fullscreen again. - The switch from scrolling vertically, to now horizontally is great! feels a lot better on Desktop. In my opinion what is still missing there: - Buttons to click to switch to previous or next Image, right now in Firefox I can only switch with the arrow keys. The Buttons should be relatively big and slightly transparent? If people were to easily miss click the button and then clicking the empty space and therefore exiting the view it would most likely create frustration. - There is no zoom, in the previous version there is. In some Images one really wants to zoom in to maybe see trichomes or Nanners etc. even more if someone is asking a question. - With the nutrients in the small overview it says in my case "1mll" instead of "1ml/l" like in the bigger overview which is correct. - Nutrient brand is missing in the overview. For example "Flora Nova" "Bloom" would show as "Bloom" not much information there. - When you sort the Diary by Harvest - Germination and scroll down it sometimes skips to highlight the proper week in week bar at the bottom, if you go to the bottom and then go up it works as intended. Overall this is a big improvement, I hope you continue to listen. I still don't like that all weeks are on one page, prefer 1 page 1 week, but this is the first time I am willing to try to use the version, previously it was unusable for me. Cheers and thanks.

@Hashy, thanks for sharing this observation. Could you please send us an example of diary where we could see the issue. We checked a couple and didn't spot anything like that. Thanks in advance!

Hashycommented1d ago
@GrowDiaries, this is an example, 1st image is a picture where its hard to fit the whole thing on the screen, missing some off the sides and top of the picture. 2nd image is a screenshot of a video where its impossible to see the sides of the video. I'm not overly tech savvy so I hope you understand what I mean. Also I can't press on the pictures or videos for them to open up to full screen, this issue is using mobile with new view mode. Thanks.

The Strains category needs a filter option for Photoperiodic's and Auto's.

@00110001001001111O, people grow a lot of autos and it's not that they complain much😎

@GrowDiaries, Good natured teasing. I have suggested people grow autoflowers outdoors when trying to avoid a wet season (sorry, I just puked in my mouth a bit). LOL, whatever floats your tuna boat, really.

@popcornsutton, This is kind of strange. The view switches back without you doing anything? Which browser do you use?

RLLY good Update 💪 Sometimes I see a picture/video that inspired me very much, by my growmies Please make it possible that you can like the individual pictures/videos of the diaries. The grow must go on ✋

It would be great an application for mobile devices (IOS and Android) please! It would be super convenient! Maybe with an AI integration, so that the AI can access all personal diaries and based on the comments of the captions etc... it can give us a hand for the problem we request or something else
GrowDiaries
GrowDiariescommented1d ago
@Spiritual_Herb, thanks for the idea. Working on it👌
Spiritual_Herb
Spiritual_Herbcommented1d ago
@GrowDiaries, Of course, the AI — we could call it something like GrowsAI — should be able to access all the parameters from the diary. Things like the type of pot, the different growth stages, the fertilizers used, the soil, the growing techniques… basically everything a user can log on GrowDiaries. The idea is to train this AI using only trustworthy sources: books, PDFs, and scientific material focused on cannabis, both from a medical and cultivation perspective. This way, the grower gets a smart, truly advanced assistant that can provide real support for any kind of grow. Some cool features that could make a difference: One is predictive yield analysis. Based on the user’s data, the AI could estimate the final yield and warn them if something starts to go off track. Another is an evolutionary timelapse. Imagine a tool that automatically builds a timelapse from daily pictures (or a linked cam) and uses computer vision to track plant health, growth speed, signs of stress, and sends timely notifications. It could also give personalized nutrient mix suggestions. Depending on the growth stage, substrate, and other inputs, the AI could calculate a tailored combination of fertilizers and microelements to optimize results.

Bug for desktop browser: If window is not wide enough, there are no scroll bars for the numerous links to each week at top.

well the different categories for plants still seems to be a random collection of diaries. There's outside plants under the Inside category and a few week old plants under Harvested catagory
GrowDiaries
GrowDiariescommented21h ago
@Ratle, Thanks for the info. Here it mostly depends on the growers. When you start a diary you mark indoor/outdoor, as we sure you know. The same is happening with harvested diaries. Some growers only post 4 weeks and then harvest. Or sometimes (from what we've seen) something goes wrong with a plant and in order to finish the diary grower jumps to the harvest week. In case you refer to something else - feel free to give us links to the diaries either here or through the contact form growdiaries.com/contact Thanks in advance and have a great day!
