@NuggetNick, I am not sure if they would have developed polyploid colas, if I wouldn't have topped her (accidentally) after the second node. I rooted the cutted top and planted it outside. This clone doesn't show any polyploid grow patterns so far (but a great outdoor growth and behaviour).
As the Humboldt cultivars have experienced more outdoor in their genes, I guess that it might be one of their outdoor survival mechanisms to shoot more biomass from a single node. But I am not to deep into genes and stuff - just guessing.
