@Brokeazo, Thank you! That "other green" is a red clover that I grow as a cover crop. Red clover gets its nitrogen from the air and releases that nitrogen when decomposing. The clover that is currently growing will be fertilizer for the next grow.
Cover crops have other reasons, such as decreasing evaporation and creating a suitable environment for your microbes.
In living soil, you feed the microbes, and then, in turn, they feed the plant.
