Sure but if you reduce 'total' amount of photsynthesis by comparison, it won't help. Try routing or bending around the large leaves. Anything destined to be a primary cola can't be all bunched up anyway, so that early growth canstretch a bit without issue.
You only want ~3 colas per sq ft. Usually there are too many and need to be thinned out, More just gets you increased trimming time and smaller, more-distributed buds. Even 2 colas per sq ft does a good job, but the buds are thicker and more prone to disease, so it's a give and take... Think i am averaging 2.7/sq ft this grow. Also reduces what you have to prune off and eliminates any need to defoliate (beyond useless axilla that will take some nascent leaves with them).
