people can tell you all the basics, but it's something you have to do to figure out what you like best.
once they are cloudy, can't really go wrong. There are phenos that don't amber up no matter how long you wait and then you just end up with over-ripened buds that taste kinda shitty. More times than not the percentage of amber is an excellent way to decide.
also get familiar with density and pistil coloration... when you have experience and recognize the trichomes acting like laggards, you'll know to rely on other attributes.
as far as what you like best... gonna have to engage in trial and error. Take note of %-amber and compare as you go.. what you like best is something you have to learn on your own.
