Improve light penetration The lower bud sites will receive more direct light, which helps them develop bigger and denser flowers.
Increase airflow Removing crowded leaves reduces humidity in the canopy and lowers the risk of mold or pests.
Redirect energy The plant will focus more energy on bud production instead of maintaining excess foliage.
Defoliation should be done selectively remove only the largest leaves that shade the buds in the middle and lower parts of the plant. Don’t strip the plant completely, as it still needs leaves for photosynthesis.
