To top, or not to top?

Spike-GreenGrower

I held off too long with the decision and now pre-flowers have just started to appear. So I'm posed with the question: top her or not? If yes, between which nodes would you top her?

You’re in flower for a few days now according to the journal, topping would be crazy talk, no one wants to stress plants during flowering, especially early stages. Gotta plan your grows and stick with them my friend.

no top bro now. let her grow as is. u will enjoy a good harvest too even if u dont top. good environment good nutrients good handling and enjoy. maybe u want to try a stressful training? people talk about ice watering , uvb lights and things like that. Beware these thing could bring a lot of negative results.

Hi, I always recommend topping the plants, doing some light LST training, and defoliating moderately. By topping the main stem you encourage the plant to distribute its growth hormones more evenly, which leads to several main colas instead of just one dominant top. This way the plant grows bushier, makes better use of the available light, and you usually end up with a higher yield and more solid buds with relatively little effort.

You’ve definitely got some nice structure going there – and yeah, you’re right at that edge where pre-flowers are starting to kick in. Technically, it’s still possible to top her now, but you’ll need to act fast if you want to avoid stressing her during transition. If you decide to go for it, I’d recommend topping between the 5th and 6th node – that gives you a good balance of lower branch development and enough energy left for strong lateral growth. But: If she’s already showing strong signs of flowering and you want to play it safe, you might skip topping and go for LST only from here on out. Less risky and still effective. So yeah, it’s doable – just depends on how much risk you’re comfortable with this late in veg.

kinda late to top it... i don't think it'd do much for you. depending on how developed the upper axillary buds (branches) are, somehwere near the height of your more developed branching. if you top where they are nubs, they'll need a little time to match the growth rate of the more developed branching beneath that point. If they are developed a bit can expect them to keep up and top close to the height of the existing branches. goal is to even it out... if it needs a bit more time where you cut, choose to cut further above existing branhces. But at this stage, i'd just let it go naturally unless you intend to vege for a least 2-3 more weeks. You may have to cut off more than you typically would to level out this plant, which will set you back a bit.

Till i had time to see girls daily, i never topped. Lst, tucking, tying, supercrop, teist, bend - you name it, but never deletion. Now in recent grow, i had no time, so i topped few girls, just to ease maintenance, would never do it if not forced ...

I would cut down 4-5 pairs depending on your boldness. An extra week in veg will recover your tardiness on the topping.

But if you are not feeling it, don't feel like you need to top her. If you have time look up apical dominance. It's what gets broken when you chop the top off. Gluck.
