Lol, certain aspects attract assholes for sure.
Lots of second, third and fourth+ accounts to cheat in the contests or just be trolls/assholes to people while still still being able to collect free seed from their main account(s). Lots of fake people, for sure.
there was even a program floating around in teh past that would automate blooating views/likes. There was a weird competition among the ones with the OCD issues, lol. Their like counts bloated by 10-50k at a time and then stagnated until the next person cheated to blas by them, and it would alternate between a few people competing with each other and the unnatural increases were clearly not from normal users, bwahah. Why would they gain 50k likes one month, then 100 the next? because 49,900 of them were created by an automated process, bwahahah.
There are even "useful idiots" out there. They may not directly cheat, but someone is doing it for them, probably an agent of the site? i don't see any othe rmotivation.
I'm pretty sure my views for my diares are artificially bloated. i don't advertise, i don't have other social media accounts, and i don't interact a ton with random people, which is what can manufacture views and likes that aren't automated - i don't do anything to drive traffic to my diaries except maybe from answering questions. There's no reaosn for my diaries to get 1000+ views, but unlike other guesses/personal beliefs in my post here, this one is possibly a false positve? i just don't want to be a "useful idiot" LOL. So, i'll err on assuming the views are at least somwhat bloated in my diaries.
The groups of people that trade likes don't go up 50k at a time or accumulate 250k likes, etc. that is a program-aided thing. The people you see 10-20k and less are more likely relying on 'cartels' of people trading likes. I've done it for a friend before. you go like every comment they make anywhere on the site. At least when it is done by hand it doesn't look so fucking absurd, lol.
As with most things related to social media or social media adjacent apps like GD, it is mostly about the superficial. the mob is not discerning. What is popular is often not that great when properly assessed. This is nothing new. popularity is caused by all sorts of things totally unrelated to growing weed well.
