Hey guys, so I got my seed in the water to have a tail to start. It’s been 18 hours and no little tail. Is this normal?

Hello Some seeds will naturally take longer than others. Be mindful of soaking them too long and danger of rot. But the other big thing is what's the temp of your water? If you can try to keep it relatively warm, if need be place a heat pad under the glass for a steady temp, or place in a warm window, or change water regularly with warm water. After 24-36 hours you might want to place it in a jiffy pod, they stay at a decent temp, a consistent ph, and have necessary nutrients already established and wait for sprout. * if you have more difficult seeds you can always file them gently to buff the shell for easier shell opening. Good luck with the grow. ✌️

yeah, just don't leave it submerged for too long or it can drown (highly oxygenated water may prevent that? ) you can google for suggestions on this methid... they range from 1/4" to 2" on the root before you plant it... if you leave the shell above ground, you'll have to gently remove it later -- but do have some patience... that's why this method is bad.. it promotes stupidity through OCD behaviour lol... if you can stay away from the silly stuff, it's as good as any method. The risk with this one is contaminating the root as well as exposing it to light. you'll just confuse the diversification of cells that is occuring. i'd suggest planting immediately. use some clean to pick it up and place it gently... the root can be buried straight down, but if you don't want to pick off teh shell, bury that portion 1/4" or soand a little bend / horizontal at tip. This will force it to do what it normally does... grow out and wedge itself upward, which will pull off the seed shell for you without picking at it or potentially damaging a sensitive seedling. people like starter cubes and such, but if they absorb water differently, you'll have odd things happening with wicking water away from the substrate or pushing more into it etc etc... i like to keep it simple. a cup of my coco. 2+ days later it sprouts. no delicate procedures you'll eventually screw up by ripping off a cotyledon or giving the root some sort of disease before it even starts. plus, it matches the end home (or start aeroponics if ebb/flow, dwc, etc)

That can happen, it can stay in aprox 24 hrs without issue. Any longer and you risk drowning the seed. I'd probably take it out and plant it in its starting container thou and not risk it. Next time you can scuff the seed slightly with some fine grit sandpaper or the woman's nail files. It helps them soak up that water a little faster and makes it slightly easier for them to emerge. Check out my first grow for tips tricks and to learn what not to do! Cheers and happy growing!

I have not done the soaking but from what I understand it is normal. If it sinks to bottom you can transfer it to papertowel or straight to soil/hydro whatever you prefer or if 24hrs have passed you can transfer anyways. You can double check this tho
