Pink Kush CBD 30:1

secondshake Hello! I'm excited to start my first CBD-dominant grow... I had a hard time finding a place in Los Angeles that had CBD-dominant clones available so I decided to give growing from-seed a try. Picked out the indica strain 'Pink Kush 30:1' not only because of its high ratio of CBD:THC, but also because it apparently gets these cool deep purple colors in the buds later on. This will be a first time I've grown an auto-flower variety. Let's see how this goes. (germination date Oct 7, 2019, expected harvest date Dec 9, 2019) Update Oct 14, 2019: Raised the height of the LEDs from 12 to 24 inches after the first couple of leaves looked like they were getting too much light.

secondshake We started getting some true leaves this week! I didn't realize it until I started this log but the height of the plant has been hovering around 1.5 inches for a week now, which I find a bit strange. Hoping its just establishing its root system and those first leaves in this early growth period. Update October 19, 2019: Decided it was too ambitious to try any high-stress training techniques on an auto, no topping and definitely no mainlining. Plan on bending the plant to my will and not much more.

secondshake Starting to see some real veggie growth this week. She close to doubled in size! Three nodes strong. I haven't changed a whole lot except that I moved the fan from blowing directly on the plant to blowing just above it. I saw that the water in the reservoir evaporated extremely fast - nearly two and a half gallons had disappeared over the span of just one week. Hoping the indirect air movement will help me get through week 4!

secondshake Witnessed some explosive growth this last week, were now over 7 inches. The roots have made their way through the net pot into the reservoir where I think they'll be happiest.

secondshake Several adjustments were made in week 5! After my pH kept plummeting into the acidic range, I decided that the plant could use a good old-fashioned nutrient flush - just pH-adjusted spring water this week. I also high-stress trained (HST) the stem to reduce the overall height. Noticed some purple color starting to come out of the early flowers and sugar leaves.

secondshake Six weeks in and she's back on the nutrients at half the recommended amount. The colors in the buds and on the leaves are more outstanding than I thought they would be. Such a fun strain to grow! I kept the height down by giving it another HST on the main cola and the buds have seemed to evened out quite a bit.

secondshake Everything is going well in week 7. A few of the lower branches needed some support as the buds start to get heavier and pull them down away from the light. Unlike previous weeks, I'm not seeing much of any vertical growth so no need to do any training. Surprised to find that the pH was very steady this week, I'm thinking it had something to do with the flush the week prior. Flower is starting to fill out nicely underneath all those spindly pistils.

secondshake Happy to find the the pH wasn't too out of whack when I got back from holiday. Curious to note that the seed bank claims on their site that the flowering time is 63 days from germination, or about a week from today, but it's looking like it will need a bit longer than that... The pistils are still sticking out straight-ish and virtually none of them have turned amber yet so I guess we'll keep her going and see what happens. I hope I didn't make a mistake by defoliating this late in the game but I couldn't help myself - I only wanted to get more light to some of those lower flowers [shrug]

secondshake I'm no expert, but from the looks of the pistils and trichomes, she's still not ready for harvest. I decided to give her at least another week before checking again. The buds are filling out so nicely and the smell is fantastic. Makes me happy to see!
