stealthassassin When I germinated this seed in paper towel, I noticed that as it cracked open the tap root looked strange, because there were two of them. After planting the seed, I noticed 3 cotyledons, also seemed strange to me. Now a second plant is emerging, with also 3 cotyledons... WTF? My current plan is to let them both grow together, and train them out in opposite directions. In this way, its like I have two growth nodes to start off with. Kind of like topping it before you plant! I know I would get more yield if I successfully separated them but I actually don't care about yield, just quality and fun.

Grow Questions

stealthassassinstarted grow question 6y ago
My seedling has two stems, each with 3 cotyledons. I have so many questions, please answer them all 🙏 1 - Have you seen this or heard of this before? 2 - Should I try to separate them? 3 - Should I kill one? If so - kill short fat and stumpy or tall and skinny?

Sorry for the late response. How are things looking now? Did you decide to separate them? Looks like your fellow growers nailed it on the head, try separating or killing one of them. Let us know if you need any assistance.

stealthassassin I had decided I was going to kill one of them, and then "stumpy" died suddenly overnight, for no reason. I am so sad, "skinny" looks so lonely now, and her stem is red which I think is stumpy's bloodstains. I feel like the blood is on MY hands though. I wanted him to die, and he bent to my will and gave up. I will dedicate this grow in honor of stumpy. RIP 😭

@Philindicus, thanks Phill! I also thought they were too wet, I am letting the soil dry out thanks for the confirmation on that one. You mentioned that it is okay for me to let them grow as is? This would actually be my preference. Also, both of them have the three cotyledons. However, they only have two tiny leaves in their first true set that I can see so fare. So I am unsure if they will continue on to be a Whorled Phyllotaxy or if they will be normal but with 3 cotyledons.

@stealthassassin, I confess I'm am over waterer. Hard habit to break. They need a 12 step program for us. I still use an digital moisture meter for my pots and try to use the lift method. I find that using a turkey baster to water my seedlings and young plants works great.

Twins
stealthassassin
stealthassassincommented6y ago
@MissCrook, so would they be genetically identical like identical twins in people? Or would they have different DNA like non-identical twins? They both have 3 cotyledons so maybe identical?

@stealthassassin, They’re clearly not identical. I vote to keep em together. Imagine how sad the bigger sister will feel? Twins flourish as twins. Fun to watch! and I have to bring my friend to this party so she can see this- @Silky_smooth_smooth loves the freaky!

Twin mutants! You going to try to separate them?
stealthassassin
stealthassassincommented6y ago
@Wicked_Stix, I dunno, just asked a grow question about that! I am thinking of leaving them for a few weeks and watching survival of the fittest, whoever grows the slowest I kill?

@stealthassassin, I would try to separate them if you have room to grow both of them. If not then I would go with killing the weak one after watching them for a while.
