DomanAtrik These Bubba Kush girls were germinated in May 2019. Kept indoor under 24 hr. LED lights until they were about 10 inches tall (mid June). I transplanted them outside in the garden I built this year. I created a section for Marijuana plants. The ground was hard red dirt and clay with huge rocks. It was tilled, rocks removed and lots of perlite, vermiculite and various bagged soils were spread throughout and tilled in. I used Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil in the marijuana section in addition to other random bagged potting and garden soils. About 16 inches below my amended dirt layer is perpetually wet clay. No matter how hot and dry it gets, that clay stays moist. Due to all the natural nutrients still in the soil, I havent added and additional nutes or additives. They are just now showing signs of their sex. Little white split hairs showing up.

If you can grow tomatoes in your soil you can grow weed they are very comparable in terms of growth habits. Your in a very dry area so too much rain rotting your roots shouldn't be an issue. Clay conditions make it difficult for the roots to penetrate it creating a shallow root system which can be prone to heating up and drying out too quickly. Since your grow looks like it's in great shape you can lightly top dress your soil with some good quality organic soil mix and then apply a thin layer (3")of organic mulch to help keep the root zone cooler and conserve moisture. Just pull back the mulch when you feed then recover the soil. As far as harvest time. Go by the buds. The white pistils will begin to dry and turn orange then curl into the calyx. When about 50% of the pistils have dried check the trichomes with a 40x jeweler loupe with led light(Amazon.com) Depending on what type of high you like will determine when to chop. The trichomes will start off mostly clear then turn cloudy/milky then amber you will have a mix of all of them on the buds. Most folks like to chop when they have 5% to 30% amber trichomes. You can also harvest in stages to try and see which you like best after drying and properly curing your bud. You have a way to go by the looks of the bud development. I hope this helps you out.👍

DomanAtrik It seems like such a slow process to finish growing. I totally prefer the speed of growing shrooms. However I just finished pruning the girls. I'm not presently using any nutrients. I will be using various Advanced Nutrients in later stages. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

DomanAtrik Things seem to be moving right along. I havent had to water them the whole summer. I think the clay layer under the amended soil has a near perfect amount of moisture. I want to add things like Big Bud, Bud Candy and Overdrive. But I'm not sure when to begin those.

DomanAtrik I've just begun adding nutrients. I'm scared to add more than 1/16 of what's directed because I use Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil, outdoor grow which is full of nutes already. Any tips on how to use what I have would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not really seeing much as far as anything that screams bud rot to me. I looked over this week and last week and the only thing that stands out is the last pic of last week has some dark green sugar leaves in the bud and the pistils are slightly discolored. That doesn't really grab me as bud rot or any other type of mold. It is possible for it to be bu rot just expressing itself a little differently so I would keep a close eye on it for sure, but honestly with outdoor grows it could be a number of things. Maybe a bug got in there and did something or maybe it is just some weird environmental or genetic thing. Either way, I wouldn't take any action as of yet. Let it play out a bit and see what it does. If it winds up looking more brownish and rotten then just chop it off. If not it might be just fine.

DomanAtrik (UPDATE) Not bud rot, cabbage worms. Lame. Purchasing some BT killer. The week was going good until I (may have had a delusional) found some potential Bud Rot! I took photos and asked a question, no answer yet. So I cut the potentially infected area away and will monitor very very closely.

DomanAtrik I wish I could get the P.H. of my soil below 7.2. Im using Sensi Bloom A&B with P.H. perfect. I havent used the full dose and it has lowered from 8.2 to 7.2. It rained for 3 days here so watering them is out 9f the question at the moment. But as soon as I am able, I will surely add Full Sensi Bloom doses as well as other essential nutrients and additives.

DomanAtrik Had a near tragedy. A gnarly rain storm came through, wind and thunder. I covered the netted structure around the plants so they bugs didnt get bombarded with rain... Whole thing toppled over took every plant to the ground. Rebuilt structure and resupported girls. 3 days later everything still fine. Only lost a couple nuggs of which I'm drying to smoke.

DomanAtrik Getting closer to harvest. Very excited. I think I will wait until the third week of October to harvest. I gave them the last nutes I am willing as of now. Flush time is about to begin. I was never able to lower my soils ph below 7.

How will I know when in almost too late to harvest? I want a strong couchlock effect and heard the longer the better. But I dont want them to self fertilize. I live in Amador county California of that helps based on my zoning.

If you want a couchlovk effect then stick with the amber trichomes. Amber trichomes GIVE the couch lock effect while the social side and buzzing effect comes from the white/cloudy trichomes. Preferably and in my opinion you want a 70/30 ratio. I would invest in a jewelrs microscope. You can get them on Amazon for 15$ or cheaper. There you can look at the trichomes with a good view at hand. You'll be able to see the difference between the trichomes and judge it from there. Also depending what day of flowering you are on and what strain you're growing will also help. Different strains give different effects. Do NOT wait too long. Thc degrades once the plant has hit its peak. So personally what I would do is check your trichomes and if its 70/30 give or take it's time to flush/chop. If you cant tell or dont have a microscope, research the strain and see the average flowering time and go from there :) Its all based on preference tho! Many growers will tell you different, you just have to find out what works for you! Best to your Grow- Visions 🌱💨

Based on your pics it looks like you're about ready. Mid October is probably the latest you want to harvest outdoor (most strains are ready late sept, early oct.). Get a magnifying glass and look at the trichomes as stated by others. Some strains don't really turn amber, and by the time they do it's too late for harvest. Generally, the more trichomes which are amber, the more sedative qualities you'll have. But as long as your trichomes are all at least milky white, and especially if you see some amber. You'll be ready for harvest. Another point to note is that proper curing over a length of time, in my opinion, is just as important as waiting for the trichomes. Slow cure in mason jars for at least 3 months and you'll notice a dramatic increase in sedative quality. I'm sure you'll notice as you make your way through it. The stuff that sits longer just keeps getting better.

If you want a good couch lock high go with 20% amber yes it depends on if you have a sativa indica or hybrid. But you bubba Kush will do the trick. Looks to me you can go one more week then chop. Also another tip is to harvest right before the lights come on that day. So you harvest when your plant isn't making sugar and startches. Damn good job though

DomanAtrik Wooly Mites?!?!?! I think I keep finding wooly mites. Will they ruin my harvest? Should I chop now or continue to maintain by hand? Everything is alive and well with a great smell and look. I will be watering them one more time and then allow them to dry for a couple weeks (weather agreeing). I've chopped a couple choice sections to smoke and OMS are they tasty and stoney. I'm very happy. Thanks for following my grow and all the advice that's been given. 2 more weeks until I chop the Bubba's down.

I always hear the stuff of amber trichomes.... and couchlocking effect.. but i would say 95 percent to get this effect is to choose the right strain. So i go mosttimes like this,, trichomes are milky iam starting to flush.. the risk of selfpollinating Indoors) of molding ( outdoors) is to high for me
DomanAtrik
DomanAtrik commented6y ago
@Mrs_Larimar, I harvested all the lower sections of the plant on the left. I left the top four colas to see how far they can go. I havent harvested anything else yet. Triches are all cloudy and amber. I pay very close attention to the plant and its growths looking for nanners and molds and other pests. I was able to stop the Cabbage Loopers thank all that is Infernal 😈. Where I live has fairly low humidity. We have high fire danger. I dont think molds will be problematic.
