love_2_grow Woooohoooo!!! It's time to start the fall grow. Originally, I had a clone/photo run planned but I will travel for an extended time in December/January so I have to ensure all plants are done before I leave. With that in mind I decided to run autos now, and wait with the clones until I'm back in mid January. The Fall line up is: * Mephisto Genetics - Double Grape * Night Owl Seeds - Strawberry Milk and Qookies Remix #2 Limited Edition * Dark Owl Seeds - Midnight Mass * Night Owl Seeds - Blue Power Auto F4 This diary will feature Blue power Auto F4: Official Sin City Seeds x Night Owl Seeds Collab Lineage: Blue Power x Forum Stomper F4 Generation: F4 Feminized Autoflower Height: Up to 3 Feet Yield: 56-112 grams average Harvest Time: 75-85 Days from Sprout I started like always - soaking the seeds overnight in a myco/kelp solution, and then planting them into Root Riot plugs the next day. The plugs are put on a tray, on top of a heating mat, and covered with a humidity dome. 48 hours later - 100% germination. The season is off with a bang!

love_2_grow The first week passed without many issues. As usual, the main event of this first week was planting into the pot. I like to start my grows using peat plugs as I find it easier to germinate that way. However, the plants quickly outgrow the plugs, so I want to get them transplanted into their final pot within a few days. I started by preparing the pots with soil. In this grow, I’m using 50-liter AutoPot XXL fabric pots, to which I added a stripe of plastic foil to reduce evaporation. It’s my first time running with the XXL system, and I’m excited to see how well it performs. The soil I’m using is living soil according to my own recipe. It contains various ingredients, including wood fiber, coco coir, worm castings, insect frass, pumice, rice hulls, basalt, rock dust, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, neem seed meal, soft rock phosphate, malted barley, biochar, gypsum, lime, and a few other odds and ends. After filling the pots, I transplanted the peat plug, using plenty of myco/kelp powder to cover the plug and the planting hole. Finally, I added a small humidity dome over each plant to ensure a moist environment until I get the humidifier installed. The next day, I added a bunch of straw as mulch. I like to do a round of preventative IPM with nematodes when I start a grow. To ensure any critters are held in check. After all, it’s easier to prevent problems in the first place than to have to battle an infestation later. The soil had been resting in a massive bag for a few months, so I decided to make a quick compost tea to boost the overall microbial activity in the soil. Yesterday, I started to brew a mix of worm castings, insect frass, basalt, kelp meal, malted barley, and molasses. It’s essentially a blend of compost tea and sprouted seed tea, providing the soil with microbes, nutrients, enzymes, auxins, and hormones. Today, I added the nematodes after the brew was finished and then fed the entire mixture to the plants. The DLI is around 20-22, which is relatively high this early in the grow.

love_2_grow This week I did absolutely nothing, besides opening the tent to peak in once per day. That was it. The soil looks to have been a bit too hot for her as she has nutrient burns. The newer leaves look fine so hopefully she has grown out of it. It's funny to see how different plants react even though they all have the exact same soil.

love_2_grow Yet, another week has passed without any effort on my part. I haven't even had to water, and it's now been two weeks since last watering. Another week or so and it's time to turn on the AutoPots. She is still tiny, but no more signs of nutrient burns, so let's see what happens. Maybe she got stunted, or maybe she will stay small anyway as I've heard many Blue Power plants do. We'll see.

love_2_grow Alright, this week was hardly more exciting as all I did was to turn on the water in the AutoPot. This was also her final week of veg as she is now in flower. Ugh. It's a bit early as she is extremely small. I suspect the soil was too "hot" for her and caused her to flower early. No clue, but that is the only thing I can think of. I honestly have to laugh when I look at her. There's no side branching at all so the harvest will be one single cola. Woooohooo.... Oh well, nothing to do but to roll with it.

I think some of the issues arose from topping and training. If I remember correctly they didn’t respond well to topping. Stunted them. Gut only had like a nine inch plant.

@sanibelisl, Thanks for the headsup. Usually, I prefer LST and leaf tucking for autos. I've had good results that way so see no real need to be topping them.

Good luck with the blue power I think I saw were Daz was giving credit on those as some had some strange issues with deformed growth. I will be paying attention because I also have a package of those beans.

@sanibelisl, Yeah, I've heard that a few Blue Power has turned small, with weird growth. I expect her to stay on the small side so I placed her in the furthest corner. It's the hardest part of the tent to reach so it makes sense to put a plant there that might not require all that much training ;)

I have found Night Owl seedlings prefer temperatures between 75-80 degrees F. The tap roots are quick to dive deep so be sure not to water too often but make sure it’s deep enough. Good luck

@sanibelisl, I haven't watered since two weeks since it hasn't been necessary. As for the depth, I'm using 15-gallon AutoPot XXL pots and they are taller than regular pots so they should be deep enough.
