Aircoholic And so it begins... I'm a bit nervous because I planted the seeds and will be away from home for 3 days, hoping the seed has germinated when I get back.

Aircoholic And off we go! This Wedding Cheesecake Auto is growing pretty fast right from the start. Let's see if this seed can keep that pace and if I can provide the right environment with the necessary nutrient availability.

Aircoholic Okay, so I was away for 4 days. I gave my plants plenty to drink before I left. When I got back, the soil in the pots had pretty much completely dried out (yes, there's a lesson in here - it's called mulching and I will get right to it after the weekend!). Wedding Cheesecake Auto kinda just tipped over. She grew pretty high pretty quick, so maybe she couldn't support her own weight? Something to do with the root system not providing enough strength yet? Or the dried out soil not providing the necessary stability anymore? She got a good soak to compensate and rehydrate the soil and the microbial life in it. 1 day later, she already seems to be correcting her posture to a more upright position. She's not quite there yet though and looking a bit slouchy, but she's definitely trying to straighten up. Is her tap root okay though? Will it continue to grow after a few (1-2) days of drying soil? If the tap root doesn't continue to grow, how will I be able to tell? Honestly, I'm not sure if I want to go through another grow with a stunted tap root - I've had plenty of those and am absolutely ready to move on!

Aircoholic So far so good. She seems to have survived the short drought and is standing up straight again. She hasn't really grown in size, so I'm still a bit worried the tap root might've suffered some drought stress or even got damaged. But other than that, she looks good - healthy and vital. I've added some mulch (finally!!) which, besides benefitting the microbes in the soil, should also slow down the evaporation process and help with moisture control. Topping her on Day 15 is a bit of a gamble, maybe it was a little early - removing the sun-sail fan leafs is quite a risk as well, so I'll have to observe her even more cautiously than I do anyways. Hope she bounces back alright!
