FridgeGrowBoi 10th June: Started the first grow in the first iteration of the fridge grow box. Plans are to make it fully automatic at some point.
The first version has the following functions:
- Cools itself with the fridge's compressor.
- Heats itself with the LED and a little by the fans and plant transpiration, due to the fact that the fridge is completely sealed when closed the
heat simply builds up, no extra equipment necessary until i decide to not run the lights 24/h a day.
- Air circulation is takes care of by 4 120mm fans, 2 of which are in the direct grow area, another one is glued directly to the cold wall to help the fridge cool the air more directly and the last one is sitting on the LED to dissipate its heat.
- Humidity is taken care of by a small ultrasonic humidifier, the water supply is supplied by the condensation on the cold wall, in this way practically speaking i will never have to fill the reservoir up. Through the vaporizing of the water and condensation the water also get cleaned.
First grow is an auto flower, however the focus is on creating a stable environment not the grow itself.
Watered Plant.
11th June Day 2:
The seedling is looking rather handsome, the first true leaves are growing in nicely.
The fridge is doing great as well, of course it was tested before planting the seed but its been running 24 hours a day for 4 full days (2nd with the seedling in it.) and I'm impressed with how well its doing. Temp is very stable between 24.1 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius.
Humidity isn't perfect yet, its swinging between 65% and 75% RH. Its not bad of course but I'm looking to have it be stable within 5%.
No water.
12th June Day 3:
Seedling is looking handsome like always, nothing new to mention.
No water.
13th June Day 4:
Nothing to mention.
Watered Plant.
14th June Day 5:
Second set of leaves are coming in.
No water.
15th June Day 5:
Watered Plant.
16th June Day 6:
No water.
17th June Day 7:
No water. End of week, getting different smaller and thinner fans to create a more vortex like airflow pattern.

FridgeGrowBoi 18th June Day 8:
Watered Plant. Start of week 2, i had to balance out the dimmer of the light due to the lack of heating on the lower setting. Currently the main heat source is the led and the dehumidifying is directly connected to the heat/cooling cycles in the fridge. Meaning if there isn't enough heat being generated then the fridge never kicks on, there will be more time before the cold wall starts condensing and thus the humidity creeps up into the 80%~ . Then the fridge finally kicks on when the LED finally has created enough heat and it ends up over cooling and over dehumidifying.
Ive already got a solution ready but it will require a little investment and i would have to pull the plant. I decided i would continue this grow and completely rebuild the fridge from the ground up with a much more responsive cooling solution, this version will likely also be controlled with a Pi 3.
19th June Day 9:
No water.
So i'm strongly considering cutting this grow short after all. There are just so many things i have already found better solutions for.
Ive already started order parts, i'm almost giddy. I like the engineering more than growing the actual weed lol.
Anyway, as of right now ill keep her alive for shits and giggles or in case i walk into some delays.
