Zanarkand Week 4 startet cold and cloudy. Forced the plants to stand inside by the window. One more day to last, then temperature and sun hours have a come back. At the end of week 4, the plants have grown - but not as much as I'd wish. Nonthelesse, they look small but good - they even start to smell! Next week is going to be warm and sunny and I am hoping for a good grow.

Grow Questions

Zanarkandstarted grow question 2mo ago
I mounded the soil around the stems of my plants to give them extra support, which creates a small hill in the center of the pot. Now I’m thinking about filling up the rest of the pot with soil to level it out. Is that a good idea? And what type of soil would be best for it?

Just make sure it's airy and not a mulch. The ceramic/plastic pot will already make oxygen a scarse commodity in that medium, so so often oxygen is overlooked but it its not readily available in a medium it will limit all other process especially at night when root respiration is a must. The top couple inches of a medium that gets blasted by light will be subject to evaporation, as moisture is drawn from top 4-5 inches as an example during cycle the damper soil below will soak up into the dryer soil like a sponge, so over time it acts like wick almost. If you had airpots and you found your pots to be drying out a little faster per cycle then I'd say add mulch but because your using ceramics with limited air you wanna do what you can to support evaporation. Tranpiration is daytime process of pulling water from pot but plant can only pull from where it has roots, this will account for 90% of water used during the day. Until your wee plant is bigger you are at the mercy of evaporation. Photosynthesis is driven by light and temp. But rate at which photosynthesis is driven is by the rate at which stomatal condutance, can perform gas exchange. Photosynthesis provides the gasoline for the car. The water cycle, transpiration and stomatal conductance are the gears ⚙️ in the car. Doesn't matter how much gas you fill her up with if the water not cycling to match the demand of photosynthesis. Sorry to ramble on, but understanding this concept I found to be far more important to understand and improve my growing skills than any the 95% of beginner guides that focus on ppfd and temps. ;) it's a good idea. Jist wait till she is a little bigger first, adding more right now will jist put roots further put of reach of limited oxygen. Doubt it would change much drastically.tho. Good luckkkkk

Zanarkand Midweek 5! Last weekend I filled up the pots with the soil mixture I used before (coco-coir / soil / expanded clay). I'd than first time flooded the pots with water, which I should have been earlier - but was afraid of overwatering. Also, I have drilled more holes into the pots!

Zanarkand Week 5 is finished - and that means we have reached week 6! My plants are not that big, that comes from a poor weather in the first two weeks of their life. If I ever grow again, I will buy some smaller lamps for the first days of growing - pure outdoor grow seems to risky in my region. But! I am proud of my very first grow, plants are alive, look healthy - and the Northern Light shows their first flowers. So is that a good or a bad sign? The plant is quite small for reaching flowering state and I am not expecting much outcome in the end. Update: We have reached end of week 6, ladies look great! The sun is weakening, but the last weeks were great!

Zanarkand We have reached the end of week 7! The plants still look great and have grown a lot. Right now I am really satisfied with the current state. They now stand outside fulltime. I stopped carrying them inside since it is warm enough during nighttime outside. The smell was also too much, it reached every corner of the house :-D I also used gardening rope to shape the plants and make sure the flowers get enough light. Hopefully this was not to much stress.

I am curious about how different the flower from my good friend is looking. His Northern Lights Buds don't look like mine. Any idea? Maybe not the same strain? I am just curious!

Viel erfolg euch beiden.

Zanarkand Nothing special to say. They need a lot water, 2 Liter every two days. Buds keep growing and I check trichome color with my camera. Currently all of them are white. Waiting for half of them turning amber?

Zanarkand I wait for both plants to reach their final state. The amphids population is also growing. I collect them of the leafes. Datasheet says: Watermelon Harvest 8-9 weeks after germination Northern Light: 10-12 weeks after germination But there were some cloudy weeks and they might need longer. I am concerned, because I am going on vacation for three weeks. Until then, they have to be ready for harvest :-) (25 more days left for that)

Sieht ja schon schön aus! Denke die werden die nächsten Wochen noch ziemlich anschwellen. Viel Erfolg und weiterhin und wenig Regen damit die nicht anfangen schimmeln zu wollen

@India_Calcoen, I am growing cannabis for the first time - so all I know is the stuff I read online. But they show those first little white hair, which is a sign of "preflowering". They also show a huge grow since that.
