smurgrow This is another shot at White Wido genetics. We're growing two plants, the one that this diary applies to will make use of CFL lights by night during veg and sunlight by day. The other plant is using same soil, nutrients etc but lives in a fancy grow room with LED lights With germination I discovered and corrected some mistakes (planting seeds too shallow in the jiffy pellets). One seed took three attempts to germinate (first in jiffy pellet, then in wet paper towels, finally when about to give up 3 days after first one sprouted i cracked the seed shell and forgot about it). Much to my surprise cracking the seed jumpstarted germination despite the fact that the towel died out more than I would prefer. That seed is one tough cookie! This time I topped up the soil until the seedling is buried up to the cotyledons. Photo is from day4 after germination. Will add some more at end of first week.

smurgrow This week was wet and windy so the plant stayed indoors and under lights for much of the time. Generally it gets 20hours of light due to supplementation with CFLs. In my first grow plants only got about 6hours of direct sun. Second grow (different strain) at this stage was supplemented with a single 85W CFL with suboptimal distance and this one is under a setup with about 500W CFL with good distance. The difference that this makes is almost a week of headstart which for autoflowers makes a big difference. No nutrients yet.

smurgrow This was a great week! I made my first attempt at plant training and the plant is responding very well. Two sets of secondary leaves are getting most of the benefit. Feeding 1ml of BioBizz grow per litre and supplemental lighting is also helping.

smurgrow This was a good week. As result of the training i'm seeing multiple additional colas and secondary growth is much more rapid compared to my other grows. Struggling to find good ph balanced water so spending lots of time making adjustments. The tap water here as ph of 8 !?!?! Added some additional photos to show what I'm doing in terms of training. Also removed two fan leaves to let more light through to specific areas that were developing slower. I know defoliation is not recommended with auto flowers but I believe the stress would be offset by the benefit of allowing an additional cola to break through.

On my other grows I've had some issues with pests. The worst was white powdery mold, but I've also seen leaf miners, aphids etc. I want to treat this plant pre-emptively with something like BioNeem. Is it safe to do that at this stage of bloom? Can you recommend safe alternative

It's not recommended to spray your plant once in flowering , and the neem oil is efficient but isn't ling lasting so you'll have to go back to spraying soon and frequently so I would not recommend to start now , btw you should have started way before and to stop it today. Against fungus you can use a milk spray with 9 part water and 1 part milk , it's helping with most of the fungus to stop the propagation. Oh and you can also use diatomaceous to keep some bugs away ( Google it )

smurgrow Another good week for this plant. As result of the training there are 6 strong colas that should produce decent sized buds. I've been applying very light defoliation to optimize light getting to secondary leaves. In terms of pest control I'm using diatomaceous earth and light wipe of leaves with copper soap.

smurgrow Another easy week. The buds are starting to fatten up nicely! Hoping to harvest in 3-4 weeks. Powdery mildew is still an issues but I'm controlling it with spray of individual leaves every couple of days with diluted organic soap based on rosemary essential oil and vinegar.

smurgrow In the final straight now. I've started flushing and planning to harvest on Sunday before a flight. Looks like powdery mold is finally under control for this plant after some aggressive defoliation and painstaking daily wipe of individual leaves with foliar spray. The main cola is awesome!

Hi @Quexos, @OutForRealbeanCarib, @Mrs_Larimar, @Experimentgreen I would appreciate some advice while planning my new grow area for indoor. My objective for this area is to cycle through autos and clones of photos (*) 3-4times a year. I want to perfect the recipe, and experiment so don't care about absolute max yield. I have a storage space with 1.8×1.06x2.4m dimensions. The walls have damp issues that I dont think i could resolve adequately for a grow area, so probably need to put a tent in. The issues with tent is that the standard dimensions don't make optimal use of space, (1×1m) seems the best option. My idea for this would be to prioritise smaller space with absolute control over environmental factors rather than trying for bigger space. It might be possible to make the full space airtight with a mylar cover, but my gut says that this would end up more expensive in long run and better to stick to proven basics. For lights my budget is $200-$300. I'm considering something along these line (**)s: https://bestvaled.com/products/bestva-elite-2000w-led-grow-light-reflector-full-spectrum-grow-lamp-for-greenhouse-hydroponic-indoor-plants-veg-and-flower - this is 400w real draw from outlet so assume it should be possible to yield 150-200g per cycle with 4-6 plants This is possibly a bit overkill for 1x1m space, but I believe the par values should support stronger growth during bloom compared to cheaper chinese leds eg king plus etc. Any thoughts or ideas? Can you recommend any better lighting options in this budget range? (*) I also have a 4x2m outdoor greenhouse that I will be using in summer to grow larger photos. (**) @OutForRealbeanCaribCarribean, one of your comments on a different question sent me deep into the rathole of now researching quantum boards :) Are those practical for a grow environment at this scale / price range? Thank you!

@smurgrow, sounds like a fun project. You may be surprised with what you can accomplish with PVC piping/pipe-fittings and Mylar/panda paper. I used these materials to add a custom extension to my grow tent. cost me like $60.

Quexos commented6y ago
@smurgrow, I would definitely go with a QB in this price range. I bought mine for my 1m x 1m tent, but I'm using it in my larger tent until I have time to move them around. I spent $317 from Horticulture Lighting Group. I had to put it together myself, and that scared me a bit since I have no electrical ability. But I'm going on my 3rd grow with these lights and I haven't burned the house down, so the instructions and construction must've been extra easy. There is also a company out of China that makes the same lights. They are much cheaper. I'm not sure of the quality. They are Shenzhen Kingbrite. My concern is the room for your grow tent. Mold and mildew is a bud killer! I have no recommendations here. Your 1m x 1m tent would be perfect for your needs. However if you are going to start cloning and mixing autos and photos, I would look into a 2nd tent. It's really hard to juggle the different light and time requirements.

@smurgrow, so for lighting if i could choose any light it would be from fluence. They're one of the most forward leds, theyve got good science and research behind their products. Good energy consumption and yields as far as I'm aware. The Razr is in your range for price and space..it's dimmable too. Do you want to alternate between autos and photos? Can you section off some area to veg and some for flowering? I think yield wise you'd have more success with photo periods but that's just my opinion. Or i saw someone who did a perpetual auto harvest here where they harvest and germinate every 3 weeks...autos are just nice because you wouldn't have to worry about light schedules as much.

smurgrow commented6y ago
@Bossy_Marmalade, thank you! Yeah, if it was not for the fact that I already got burnt with mold in the damp area then I'd tackle the custom grow area and I will probably do this in the long term. But for now will stick to a tent.

smurgrow commented6y ago
@Quexos, thank you! The QB options seem very promising. My thinking is to do a cycle of autos in the space, them harvest and switch to clones. Not run them at the same time. I'll go with a tent to combat the damp to be safe.
smurgrow
smurgrow commented6y ago
@Experimentgreen, the plan is to alternate and ensure that there are only autos / photos /clones in the space at one time. I think photos do make sense, both because of higher yield but also more thc. Going full on with tent env controls and bloom lights definitely make this a better option. I will adapt accordingly. Dont think I'll need separate veg area at this scale. I got super lucky with an upstairs balcony that has 4x2x1.6m area for outdoor photos so can do some big plants outside for yield in season and have more than i can use while learning.

Experimentgreen commented6y ago
@smurgrow, that is awesome i love outdoor. They have some cool fabric pots that are like raised beds...either the big bag bed by smart pots or maybe a geo bed or geo pot version that has pvc pipe support. Those would give a good amount of root space

@Bossy_Marmalade, thank you! I'm a bit worried because I'm picking up some amber under microscope already on day 67 and I was hoping to get to 80days at least. My secondary colas need more time 😀

I hate when that happens. Would you consider performing a half/partial harvest to let the others catch up?
