First Grow: Linfa Weezy with Royal Dwarf

Honkytonky End of Week 1 after planting seeds. No smell. Plants all growing and looking good.

Honkytonky Quite a bit of smell has set in now. Unfortunately Linfa is so stingy, that they only provide one active carbon filter mat. One is supposed to install that filter after about 30 days in order for the filter not to be exausted before flowering time. A spare filter mat can not be ordered seperately from Linfa. That is ridiculous on part of Linfa. I dare say Linfa has a lot of work to do when it comes to customer satisfaction.

Honkytonky The Royal Dwarf strain seem to really live up to its name. Even after 3 weeks the „tallest“ one hardly reaches 10cm.

Honkytonky Day 24: Plants are still very short. I tried some defoilation to promote growth. The tallest one nevertheless barely reaches 13 cm. Maybe a dwarf strain isn‘t a good idea after all for a Linfa. The Linfa confines the root system quite a bit. So, with my next attempt, I will be planting some larger growing strains. This time though, I expect a harvest of about 10-12g in total for all four plants combined. Since I don‘t smoke too much, that will last me about 10-12 weeks. A Linfa is after all a grow box made for the micro consumer. Day 27: scog net intoduced Day 28: the tallest plant reaches about 16-17cm, the shortest one still doesn’t reach the scrog net, which sits about 12.5cm above the slotted base plate. Well, at least three plants have reached a height now so that the installation of the scrog net starts to make sense.

Honkytonky Day 29: plants still growing. Even faster than before. Stupid me forgot to add water to the tank for quite some time and got an e-mail alert that the water level dropped to just 25%. Naturally I refilled the tank. However, with the Linfa system of nutrient delivery only once a week, I fear the water is now fairly devoid of nutriens, since I added so much water. The issue with the water level also explains why the plants showed some sign of nutrient burn in the last week. Day 30: some more and very subtle defoilation. 4 leafs removed in total. Day 35: It seems that the plant growth has petered out. As it turns out now, the installation of the scrog frame was totally unnecessary and counterproductive, since it shadows the lower buds. Unfortunately, since the the scrog „net“ is actually a rigid frame, it can‘t be removed now at this stage without damaging the plants. So next time I know NOT to install that scrog frame when the plants at the end of week 4 just reach the scrog level or slightly above.

Honkytonky Day 36: I added the first of three boosters to the water tank - as per Linfa app notification. The Linfa grow box is however a bit to unflexible when it comes to nutrient supply. For my 4 small plants, the automatically supplied nutrients seem to harm at least one plant in a serious way. Day 37: To counter the nutrient burn, I have started to pour a cup of water every morning over the rootsystem of the worst affected plant. So as to wash away a bit of the oversupply of nutrients. Probably to no avail. Time will tell. Day 39: Removed the scrog frame. The ladies are fairly short and have stopped growing anyway. Day 40: Nutrient burn is worsening and I decided to contact Linfa. They told me to just make sure the water level is at 100%. However. I decided to take matters in my own hands now and did half empty the water tank and refilled with fresh water. Day 41: Since the Linfa box is about to deliver a fresh batch of nutriens, I half emptied the water tank today again and refilled with fresh water. Hopefully with the two days of emptying the water tank I didn’t overdo it and the ladies now start to starve…

Honkytonky Adjusted the ph-level down to about 5.5 and bumped the nutrition level up to about 1400 ppm from the previous week’s ph 7.5 and nutrition 350ppm. No wonder the plants have nearly perished by now. It probably will be too late by now since the plants have already suffered a lot. Well, at least for the next grow I know what to look out for and how important monitoring of ph and nutrition levels are. If I get lucky, the plants will survive a few more days for me to learn how to properly use the Linfa box. Silly me didn’t even have a ph and ppm meter untill yesterday.

Honkytonky Started reducing nutrients from 1400ppm last week to 850 ppm on day 58 and down to 500 ppm on day 60. I plan on getting it down to plain water from day 61 onwards. Harvest is going to be tomorrow (day 64).

Honkytonky I have managed to harvest the smallest amount ever recorded. I challange anyone to harvest less than that. Four plants and an estimated 10-12g dry weight of smokable buds. Lol. Well, next time counts. This one was a dress rehersal…. :-/
