Ottos_Jacket Off to a good start - germination after a few days. My lights are pretty cheapo Amazon flexible LED stick things but worked ok for my previous budget grow (Royal Dwarf). A lot more vermiculite and a fabric pot this time to get some better drainage and root growth. On my first grow the soil stayed wet for too long restricting how often I could use nutrients. But will probably need to be more attentive to ensure she doesn’t dry out.

Ottos_Jacket Week 2 begins. Feels like a slow start… thinking my compost may be crappy. May start feeding quite early on this one. I accidentally left my lights off when I went to work on day 3 and she got super leggy!! 🙈 But should be ok as planning to LST anyway.

Ottos_Jacket Finally the pace is starting to pick up a bit after a very slow start. Earthed up the stem a bit to deal with the leggy seedling and started feeding with bio grow.

Ottos_Jacket Still growing slower than I expected but I know my conditions aren’t ideal so it is what it is. She’s got about 3 nodes now so will start LST this week.

Ottos_Jacket Been away on holiday. Plant survived and light timer worked :-) LST well underway. This seems to be a very dwarf variety of plant so hopefully the nodes will grow up sufficiently during stretch and I don’t just end up with 1 sideways cola 😂😂

Ottos_Jacket Slightly lost track of weeks. But flowering is well underway. Lots of big pistils and some sugar leaves forming. LST has backfired because of my poor lights. The canopy has spread nicely but I think growth has stopped too soon. I still really only have 1 main growth leader and the other nodes haven’t had time to develop. I’ve purchased some decent lights now and will be setting them up at the weekend but I think it’s too late for this plant. Likely to be a few popcorn nugs. But i still have a couple of seeds left of this strain so I think the next grow with proper lights should be good as the plant seems to grow fast and respond well to LST.

Ottos_Jacket Got the new lights in place and can see the immediate difference. It’s too late now to recover the damage done by the original lights, but the buds are fattening up nicely now even if there’s not many of them! But at least I know the next grow will work much better. Current observations are that I definitely didn’t need such a big pot and that this strain flowers so quickly you need really good growth early on if you’re going to use LST. My weak early growth means I’ve got loads of low level popcorn buds where the new vertical growth was meant to be!

Ottos_Jacket Think she’s almost there - which is great as I’m going on holiday in 1.5 weeks and won’t be able to leave the lights running! The top buds especially are looking good, pistils curling in nicely, more and more each day and I’m starting to spot a few amber trichs. 👌 It will be a small harvest for sure because of the earlier documented lighting issues. There’s not many bud sites but each one is looking good and I think I will definitely grow another of this strain with better lights from the start.

Getting some weird discolouring of leaves - is this nute issues? Or just natural plant die back near to harvest?

Check ph. I could be off and not allowing the plant to uptake calcium magnesium or iron. I had this issue when my ph pen was off.

Thanks both for the responses, much appreciated. I did switch from Bio grow to bio bloom only during flowers so you’ve probably nailed it on that mistake I’ve made. (It’s been a learning grow all round!). I don’t *think* it would be calcium deficiency as we’re in a very hard water area. @GrowingGrannie re:trichs are you looking in my diary or the photos in this question? The photos posted in the question are from some lower popcorn buds near the bad leaves. The upper buds I think are nearly ready. Most pistils brown and curled in, mostly cloudy trichs with a few ambers forming. Like I say a learning grow using LST and new lights for the first time - so not expecting much but looking forward to chopping and going again with everything I’ve learned and the great tips from people on here!

If you're going to add nitrogen to this grow, ONLY do it by adding some Tiger Bloom to your feed... it's got a small amount of nitrogen and I like to combine it with Big Bloom (having cut out Grow Big altogether). But I don't think that's your problem at all... I think it's calcium deficiency. And from the look of your trichs, you've got 3-4 more weeks to go so it IS something you should address. I'm not seeing any info on the PH level and so I would ask if you check this... They look like they could benefit from some calcium but I've not found any problem with calcium deficiency using your nutes (and they are exactly what I use)... Calcium is absorbed when the PH is between 6.2 and 7.0... outside that range, you can give it all the calcium in the world but the plant won't be able to get at it... so double check your PH. If it's in the right range, then you can add some calmag once a week... Fox Farms sells a good calmag.... but DEFINITELY check the PH of your solution when you add it because it does a number on the PH levels and you'll have to adjust... And btw, as far as PH is concerned, in order not to have any OTHER problems with nutes and micronutrients, try to keep your PH to 6.2 or 6.3... it is the "sweet spot" Good luck!

Ottos_Jacket Made the chop at the weekend. Trichs had been nearly entirely milky for a while now and barely any change to ambers. Plus the smell was starting to lessen so just went for it rather than overcook it. Considering this was a runt plant with loads of issues with lighting for the first half of the grow it’s yeilded a respectable 38g (wet). If the smoke is good, I have another Easy Bud seed and I’m confident with the better lights from the start and how this one has gone despite the issues it will get a great yield. I did notice that despite my soil being nearly 30-40% perlite that the roots were pretty crappy. Don’t know if that has held the plant back?
